Recently, Star Wars has worked its way back into the news. While most of it is high praise for the way the franchise has been brought back, some of the news, such as the passing of Carrie Fisher, better known as Princess Leia, has not been as heart-warming. With that being said, it leaves room for question on how the fans feel about the franchise after its recent installments.

To some, Star Wars is magical and can never be too old-school or lame. For others, it depends on the movie and storyline before they make their final judgment. Personally, I believe Star Wars has always been renewed in creative and interesting ways that make it almost a can’t-miss movie.

With all the creative, not-so-important characters to the fearless main characters to the eye-capturing settings and everything else in between, it’s clear why this franchise has movies that always sit at the top of the Box Office when a new installment comes out.

Senior Dan Tagtmeier also agrees with me that the Star Wars series is awesome. However, he is starting to question the future of the franchise since “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was “incredibly boring throughout [the movie].”

Tagtmeier believed that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was a bunch of other previous Star Wars movies put together into one movie with the only exception being the new characters, such as Rey and Finn.

However, people may still enjoy the movies and plan on being in attendance when the next movie comes out and any other future installments.

“A good story goes on for future generations.  I’m looking forward to seeing where these new characters will take audiences,” said English Teacher Alexander Kapotas in an email.

As Star Wars continues to roll out movies, they still need to keep it classy for the original viewers, though. The people who saw the first movies in the 70s and 80s enjoyed them because the technology in the movie was new and interesting.

“My mom was telling me everyone in the theater was like, ‘Wow’, ‘look at that’, ‘Death Star’, ‘TIE fighters’, all that is really cool. It throws in a world of lightsabers, blasters, you know. All that is really enjoyable,” said Tagtmeier.

Now, the Star Wars franchise must face a question they never thought would surface. Without Fisher to make any more movies, does the franchise have any reason left to continue making movies without this pivotal character?

Fisher recently passed away after suffering a heart attack on a plane. Although she survived the initial heart attack, she later passed due to complications. She has been in most, if not all, Star Wars movies and played a very big role in the movies serving as the Princess of Alderaan and one of the many influential leaders of the rebellion.

Without her, I think this next Star Wars movie, “Star Wars: VIII”, will be the last installment of the franchise because how can you make a Hans Solo spin-off without his wife, Princess Leia?

If I were The Walt Disney Corporation, I would put everything they have into this next film because who knows if there is anywhere left to go with this next movie after Fisher’s passing.
But, Star Wars has only ever been on the rise since the movies started in the 70s, so I think this next movie, which comes out Dec. 15, 2017, will be the last installment in the series if they want to keep the franchise forever memorable in the years to come.

Additionally, Star Wars has been a wonderful franchise and has kept its viewers on the edge of its seats from the beginning and has no reason to hang their heads because of Fisher or what the critics say about their movies, such as “Not really my cup of tea” or “hollow and heartless.”

All aside, this franchise deserves to go down in film history as one of the most grossing film series of all time and should forever remain in movie stardom.
