It’s that time of year again, homecoming. With all the activities offered during homecoming week, from powderpuff and the football game to spirit week, the pep assembly and the dance, this time of year can be exciting for many.

“I have actually not been to homecoming before, so I’m excited to have fun and dance since I love dancing. I’m also super excited because the group I’m going with is really fun and laid-back, so hopefully we’ll have a great time,” said Junior Hana Fakhoury, a transfer student from Wheeling High School.

Leading up to the homecoming dance on Saturday, Sept. 23, is the Friday night homecoming football game. For this game, Red Rage will cheer on the varsity football team toward a potential victory against Waukegan High School.

“I’m most excited for the football game because all the fans come out and support us, and it’s a good time,” said Junior Jake Vanderploeg, varsity inside linebacker.

To get ready for the game and dance, Student Leadership has organized spirit week with a different dress-up theme for each day. Seniors, though, organize their own spirit week.

“I’m excited to dress up for senior week because we have our own special dress up days, and I’m just really excited for that,” said Senior Jackie Tyma.

Homecoming week isn’t just about the students; it also includes the staff.

“I am most excited about the whole week of homecoming. The Mundelein community does such a great job getting everyone involved and getting kids excited about all the events that will be happening,” said Julie Block, sophomore class sponsor for Student Leadership. “I love the dress up days (it is fun getting in the school spirit with the students), the assembly is always so exciting seeing everyone’s talent and the parade will be a blast. This week is always such a great time for students to showcase their great work.”
