MHS Art Exhibition Back in Business

After two years of the in-person art show lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Art Department hosted the Mundelein All-Area Art show in appreciation of students’ artwork on April 28 and 29 in the Main Gym. Students were encouraged to visit the Main Gym to experience all forms of artistic expression created by not only MHS students but from students at the surrounding feeder elementary and middle schools. “I think it’s a great opportunity for students to show off their accomplishments from the year, and I’m really happy with the work in the show– things that couldn’t happen when we were doing remote learning,” Art Teacher Peter Schrenk said. “It’s great to be back to normal.”

Conversations of Creativity: Spanish teacher Caroline Gully and a staff member appreciate students’ artwork in the Main Gym. She looked forward to bringing her classes to the show as she loves coming every year. Gully said, “I’m secretly always looking for something to purchase– when people visit my home and they see cool artwork on the wall, I get to say that one of my students made it.”

Show and Tell: Sophomore Abbie Shifley shows off her art pieces to friends during class periods. Over the past year, Shifley has used a new form of artistic expression in her ceramics class. Art Teacher David Mork said, “There seems to be a lot of good energy, which is part of the point of this, for kids to be able to show their work to other people. There are a lot of kids that don’t know that their friend that they sit with in math class is an artist. That’s part of why I like this so much because kids are all of a sudden exposed.”
