“We usually visit pumpkin patches and corn mazes in October…we usually go to find pumpkins to carve later that night, that the squirrels end up eating,” said Sophomore Julissa Santos.

Junior Aliyaah Atade shared, “This year I’m going apple picking with my siblings so that’s a new tradition that we’re thinking about starting..If all goes well.”
Chicagoland’s closest apple orchard, Heinz Orchard offers a small yet varied selection of apples to pick from. McIntosh gives a sweet and sour taste, Jonathan has a crunchier texture and a tart flavor, and Empire apples deliver a crunchy and sweet bite. Heinz Orchards officially opens September 29th at 10 am. Teacher, Arti Bhandari shared, “My family celebrates the holiday Diwali in the fall. It’s a huge holiday in India and we usually host a big party with friends and family where we have a ton of Indian food, desserts and exchange gifts.”
Halloween isn’t the only kick start to the fall holiday season. It also includes the celebrations of other cultures within global communities. Many cultures begin their festivities as the fall season comes up, and often celebrate for more than one day. To appreciate their loved ones, the history of their culture and to honor their culture.
