The holidays are almost always joyful for people, filled with love, laughter, family, and gifts. This past December, prior to winter break, 24 Mundelein students shared their favorite gifts, least favorite gifts, the craziest gift they’ve ever received, and whether they prefer material gifts or experiences.
These students’ favorite gifts range anywhere from clothes to a puppy. Multiple people said their favorite was tickets to see the musical Dear Evan Hansen. Multiple students stated that their favorite gift was a Nintendo Switch. Other favorite gifts included a puppy, tickets to see Elton John, and a guitar.
While plenty of great gifts are received during the holidays, not all of them are good. Students reflected on the worst gifts they’ve ever received and the responses were surprising. One student received a gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings, which seems nice; however, that student was a vegetarian at the time. Another student received a box of exploding glitter. The most talked about worst gift is usually socks, however, for these Mundelein students, the most received worst gift was underwear.
Students also reminisced on the craziest gifts they’ve ever received, the good and the bad. One student received a hoverboard, another was given a taxidermy. Some students were given tickets to see their favorite singers in concert. Others were given trips to places like Disney World, Mexico, and Las Vegas.
From this information, it was determined that over 50% of students prefer to receive gifts that come in the form of an experience, something like a concert or a vacation.
The holidays can be one of the most festive parts of the year. As students file back into school from winter break, many will be sharing their new gifts and experiences with their friends. Reflecting once again on what they were given this year.
