Last month, MHS students took a trip to Chicago for the annual University of Chicago high school Model UN conference (MUNUC). In this four day conference, students meet in different committees to debate specific global issues, and come together with other countries to formulate solutions to the problems at hand.
Here’s what students saw as their highs and lows of the trip:
Keshav Chandramouli
High: “I had a great time because of how many more friends we had in the club. I would say the high for me was hanging out downtown and getting food with my friends.”
Low: “One downside was that our committee was much larger this year—I preferred a smaller one like the year prior.”
Tyler Glazer
High: “My high was probably the free time we had. Being able to go out and meet other people was the best part.”
Low: “The presentations were the worst.”
Giovany Valente
High: “The highs were the general culture and comradery between delegates.”
Low: “Slogging through the moderated caucuses and presentations.”
Brandon Marano
High: “Definitely the time we had away from the hotel, and having dinner at the Taco Pub was great.”
Low: “The first day was pretty intimidating, but also boring.”
Ronan Gardner
High: “Hanging out with friends and being able to experience the conference and Chicago with them.”
Low: “The elevator crisis.”
Charles Fisher
High: “My committee in general was really fun, and getting to meet the other delegates was exciting. Hanging out with friends in Chicago and eating out was great too.”
Low: “The first committee session, the first day in general was pretty boring.”
Joey Gargano
High: “Being able to travel around the city and spend time with your friends, all the while meeting new people was so fun.”
Low: “The moderated caucuses.”
Riley Demko
High: “My highs are meeting people from out of state, and getting to be in a room full of people with the same interests as you. It almost feels like a college experience, going to meetings on your own and hanging out downtown with friends.”
Low: “My lows are the exhaustion from being in committees all day and barely getting any sleep. Plus, the amount of school work you miss when you’re at the conference.”
Daniel Derosiers
High: “Meeting new people and being able to chill in Chicago.”
Low: “Sleeping on a futon and being sick afterwards.”
