On February 9th, 2024 CBS News Chicago came to MHS as part of their school spotlight series. The story detailed various classes and activities at the high school including the stem lab, jazz band, Black Student Union, and show choir.
Nicholas Bryan-Boateng, a junior at MHS, got the opportunity to speak to a reporter about an organization he’s a part of called My Brother’s Keeper.
Bryan-Boateng described the organization as, “The message I was trying to send specifically with My Brother Keeper is showing how our men of color and minorities can achieve something greater than the situations we were born in and pave our way into success and righteousness.”
The organization works in tandem with Black Student Union at the school.
Bryan-Boateng said about his experience on the news, “Being on the news was a spectacular experience being able to present myself to thousands of people and bringing awareness to the work our student body puts in was an amazing opportunity.”
Show choir did a segment of their performance for the news as well. The director of Sound, Cory Thompson, said on CBS Chicago, “These students are some of the hardest working students we have here at the school. We have students that are varsity athletes, part of our National Honors Society, AP/Honors students, and they are so heavily involved with a fantastic work ethic.”
This February Sound, showcased on CBS, won best vocals at the Fort Atkinson Showcase and Noise, the band for the choir, won best band at the same competition.
Gianna Feather, a member of sound and senior at MHS, said, “It was so fun to show off all the hard work we have put in this year and be showcased to a larger audience.”
