There is only one word to describe a good defensive end: dominant. Dylan Coe is exactly that.
A senior at MHS, Coe is the starting defensive end and left tackle for the Mundelein varsity football team. Being a dominant threat on both offense and defense is very rare, and it requires intense training to do well.
MHS football trains rigorously to make the team the best they could be, which includes summer training, early morning lifts, and rigorous after school practices. As a very physical sport, the weightroom is key to a football player’s success. Coe is no exception to that rule. Day in and day out he puts in the work. His motivation is simple, as he puts it, “to be better than my competition.” Despite its simplicity, it rings true with his results and goals.
As one of the best players on the team, Coe shows how constant work and dedication does translate into better performance. He is a key player to this year’s Mustang squad, however they unfortunately will be missing him for the foreseeable future. After suffering a knee injury in the teams 17-6 win at Zion-Benton on September 13th, Coe has yet to play a snap.
While that has thrown a wrench into the teams performance, having at least some cause for their 36-0 blowout loss at home against Stevenson on the 20th, it has only motivated Coe more to be the best he can be.
He has one overarching goal for his football career: to play division one football. That goal has been made tougher by that injury, but that will not stop him from trying. “Recovering from my injury and working harder than I’ve ever worked before,” he said. Simple reasoning, but incredibly complex and difficult to do. Between “late nights and early mornings,” Coe has all the motivation and drive in the world to not only recover quickly and smoothly from his injury, but come back stronger than ever and ready to make an impact at a national level at a division 1 university.
