When the first few weeks of school start to settle down and fall comes around, so does Homecoming. Think: fun theme days, the parade, the assembly, and of course, Friday Night Lights.
“Everybody says that Homecoming is not the best after the dance, but I think leading up to it and the prep for it is the actual good part,” Senior Chris Jasso, one of the seniors on this year’s Homecoming court, shared.
This year’s Homecoming theme was Tropical Paradise. Different hallways throughout the school were decorated by Student Leadership, and gave everyone a sneak peek for the big event. This year, there was also the Food Truck Event during the girls flag football game that brought out the community to support our girls and the school.
Jasso, though, says the best part of Homecoming week is the all-school assembly that took place on Friday. “Seeing everybody’s excitement around the assembly and the lead up to that throughout the whole day was really fun.”
During the hour and a half assembly, our dance team, band, and fall clubs and activities are celebrated as a school. Games are played and competed against the different grades, ending the school day on a positive note.
Our Mustangs went against Zion-Benton that night, and although they lost 19-14, memories were made. “I think the energy that comes with everyone coming together to be excited about something is what homecoming is [really] about,” Jasso said.
Jasso also thought that this year’s dance was great compared to past years. The dance floor was packed all night, and students took photos up till the very end at the photo booth.“It’s definitely one of the most memorable parts of high school you don’t want to miss out on,” Jasso remarked.
