It’s the favorite time of the fall season for many teenagers all over the Chicagoland area and all over the country. It’s time for the annual Six Flags Fright Fest presented by Snickers. The event started September 13th and will end on the 2nd of November.
Let’s take a look at all that makes this fest such a unique and fun event for so many teenagers.
Starting with some specifics, if you are looking to visit this event you’ll first have to buy a ticket and also you’ll have to know where the park is located. Starting with location, you can find the theme park at 1 Great America Parkway, Gurnee, IL 60031.
There is a massive parking lot and while yes you will have to pay for parking if you plan to drive yourself to the park it is very accessible and an easy place to store your car while you have fun inside the park.
Moving onto ticket prices, when on the Six Flags Great America website you will see that there are two options when it comes to the tickets one can buy to experience parts of Fright Fest.
The first ticket is the Haunted Attractions Pass which goes for $40 and gives you access to Haunted Mazes on the day you select for the ticket. This pass however does not give you park admission so while you won’t get to experience the in-park attractions of Fright Fest you can still have a blast at the Haunted Maze.
The second option is Ticket + Haunted Attractions Pass for $79 that gives you all-day access to the Great America park and the Haunted Mazes on the date you select. This ticket does not however cover your general parking, nor does it give you discounts on merchandise or food you may buy at the park. Being able to experience all the attractions the park offers is definitely worth the price.
Now that we’ve covered the logistics of what getting into the park looks like, let’s take a look at what you can do once you get within the park. For starters, you have the classic rides at the amusement park such as Raging Bull, Viper, Superman, Batman, but also some newer rides such as Sky Striker plus Wrath of Rhshaka. Along with these classic rides Fright Fest also brings a scary and unique experience to your average day at Six Flags.
Throughout the park you’ll find scary actors trying to scare you. It’s their job to get you frightened, hence the name Fright Fest. The cool thing about Fright Fest is that different scary actors are found in different parts of the park based on different movies, shows, or events the characters are based on.
The list of different scary actors you can find in different parts of the park can all be found on the Six Flags Great America website.
However, to list a few in the Madi Gras part of the park you will find the characters from the Conjuring Universe, in the County Fair part of the park you will find characters from the SAW universe, and in the DC Universe part of the park you will find characters from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Along with all the scary and fun attractions Fright Fest has to offer, the park also offers some fantastic food as well as merchandise themed to the event. The prices of both the food and merchandise are both tailored to the places they are offered within the park.
Don’t just take the website’s word for it though, let’s see what a MHS student has to say about Six Flags Fright Fest. MHS Sophomore Jacob Matyasik has been going to Six Flags for many years and has been going to Fright Fest with family and friends at least two times a year for the past five years.
Matyasik said, “I really enjoy Fright Fest because it adds a special element to an experience I already enjoy that is just Six Flags in general.”
Matyasik loves the holiday of Halloween as well so Fright Fest and all of the Halloween related activities it brings really bring him joy.
Another MHS Sophomore Ethan Mason also likes to go to Fright Fest during this time of year. He enjoys the fest for similar reasons as Matyasik and as the general public does as well.
Mason clarified that, “Fright Fest is something that I feel like everyone should experience as I have so much fun every year.”
Mason who isn’t exactly a fan of the roller coaster aspect of Six Flags feels that for people who might have the same feelings as him towards roller coasters that Fright Fest brings a new perspective to the park and that, “you don’t really need to ride roller coasters to have fun during Fright Fest.”
