Hello! I’m Kayla Baltazar, and I’m a senior! This is my second time working on the newspaper, and this year I’ll be the News-Features/Opinion Editor for The Mustang. Ever since I was little, I always had a love for writing, especially stories. Journalism gives me the opportunity to chase and write about real stories, and I’m excited to get started. Aside from writing, you can find me on the dance floor. I’m on the school’s varsity dance team as well as in a dance company outside of school. I’m also in MHS Student Leadership, and a member of NHS. I can’t wait for an awesome final year on the journalism staff!

Hello world of coding: Senior Jill Kennicott (left) encourages Sophomores Enayda Bustos and Sarai Herrera to sign up for the club Girls Who Code. Despite expressing hesitancy at first, Bustos and Herrera eventually opened up the idea of trying something new. “[Kennicott] was like: ‘oh no, you don’t need any experience’,” said Bustos. “She got us more confident in ourselves.”
