Boys Water Polo Goes Undefeated at Home Tournament

Hannah Roberts, Staff Reporter

Going into their home tournament on the weekend of March 18th, the boys water polo team was ready for anything. They played four games in total and won all four of them and in turn won the tournament.

This tournament was against Glenbrook North, Lockport, Hinsdale Central, and Lindbergh which is a school from Missouri.

After playing almost four full games senior, Ethan Trankolov went for the game-winning point. When it went in the world froze for a moment.

Trankolov described the scene, “The world sort of froze for a moment like it does when something important happens in a movie, and then all of a sudden everything just burst at once.”

The whole crowd was cheering and the coaches were jumping up and down with joy. Everyone got hit with a wave of happiness as they realized what had happened.

According to junior Alec Sethna the team, “wanted some revenge” after losing to their rivals in the championship last year.

When they got that victory the team proved themselves. The only other time they have won the tournament was back in 2019.

Now the team is preparing for the rest of their season as well as hosting the Mundelein Quad on April 22, 2023. They are going to work harder than ever to beat out their competitors again.

Trankalov described the team as, “ a tenacious group of guys who are going to fight harder and outwork every other person in the field to be able to win.”

Every member of the team has a deep drive to win. They intend on using that drive to push them forward and motivate them to win future games and tournaments. They plan to continue fixing little mistakes to eventually become a championship team.

According to senior Matthew Willis the team has been working on, “their passing and offense.”

Each day the team looks to improve. They hope to achieve their goal in becoming a better team, a championship team.
