At the end of the 2025-2026 school year, Principal Alexandria Taylor will be resigning.
Last summer, Taylor discovered that she was expecting her fourth child and made the decision to step down from her position as principal.
“I realized [then that] now my commitments at home would compete with work,” Taylor said. “I had to make a difficult choice, but I knew it was the right one.”
Taylor said that there are a lot of emotions that arise with leaving, but the bitter sweetness of it all is what she feels the strongest.
“I love Mundelein–this has been such an exceptional place to lead and to learn,” Taylor said.
Taylor thanked the people who’ve been with her during her principalship: “The students, the support team, our secretaries, the custodial and security team teachers–we’ve become very close in these last four years so that’ll be difficult to say goodbye to.”
After making the decision, Taylor notified her team immediately.
“My most important priority at that time was making sure we gave enough time for the selection process so we could find and hire a really, really great principal to be my successor,” Taylor explained.
During the selection process, Taylor sent in a letter of recommendation for Assistant Principal Stevee Libert. “She’s the right person for the job and so much more,” Taylor said.
In the end, Libert, a familiar face, was chosen to continue leading MHS.
With over a decade of experience at MHS, Libert has not only been an Assistant and Associate Principal, but has also taken on a variety of roles here to help students at MHS.
“I previously taught choir, beginning guitar, and credit recovery. When I was a teacher, I served as the teacher’s union vice president,” Libert said.
When she found out she earned the position, Libert said, “I was very excited for a new opportunity and…I love that MHS is a place to grow and appreciate the opportunities that have been available to me in our school community.”
There are many things Libert is excited about continuing and improving for the next school year, but they all have a common theme: the students.
“I hope to incorporate more student voice in our student experience, celebrate the great things our students are doing every day, and learn together how our students can grow in supporting their peers and our community,” Libert said.
In her 11 years at MHS, it’s hard to choose just one favorite memory. Instead, it’s an amalgamation of all the years she has spent surrounded by the supportive Mustang community.
“My favorite memory isn’t one specific thing, but more so the experience of working here – building relationships with students and staff, having great mentors who encouraged me to grow, and creating a strong professional foundation here,” Libert explained.
“I think our student body is unique, talented, and strong and we have a good opportunity to define what our culture looks like,” Libert said. “I hope to continue to grow our student culture to create a place where students are as excited about being a Mustang as I am.”
