On December 30th, 2025, girls basketball player Senior Casey Vyverman broke the MHS all-time scoring record at 1,560 career points.
The girls basketball season has been off to a good start. With an overall record of 14-9, and their conference record at 5-4, they are 4th place in the conference. Vyverman has played a key role in helping her team win.
“After breaking the record, I felt like the work I had put in the past four years had really paid off and it felt good to celebrate that with my teammates,” said Vyverman.
Vyverman also shared her mindset going into each game: “As long as I play hard everything will work itself out. I think through the game plan and remind myself that it’s just a game and everything will be okay.”
Josh Jorns, coach for the girls team, shared how he runs his practices to prepare the girls for the upcoming games. “We do some skill stuff, individual skill development,” stated Jorns. “We have our game prep by just going through different in game scenarios.”
While that is how the team practices during the season, Vyverman is putting in the work before the games. “I shoot on my own before every game and also still lift a couple times a week,” stated Vyverman.
Her offseason workout it much similar “I focus more on strength training a few
times a week as well as trying to get shots up as many days as possible,” she shared.
After high school, Vyverman will be taking her talents to Western Michigan University (WMU). “I decided to commit to WMU because I felt like the staff really valued me on and off the court and I knew it would be a good environment for me to develop and have the best 4 years possible. The school also has a good program for my major and it just seemed like the perfect fit,” she stated.
“In college my first goal is just going to be to compete everyday and earn playing time early on. I’m hoping to win a conference championship and it would be really cool to play in the NCAA tournament at the end of the year. But other than that I haven’t really set any other goals since I just don’t really know what to expect yet.”
