On Monday April 13th, Mundelein pitcher Will Bemrich threw a no hitter against the Stevenson Patriots. Bemrich threw seven innings with seven strikeouts and only three walks.
“It felt surreal, especially coming back from an injury and throwing a no-hitter. It was just amazing” said Bemrich. After Bemrich threw his no hitter the following week, he was named Prep Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Bemrich was able to stay consistent throughout the game averaging a strike out every inning. Bemrich could also rely on his infield to make great plays to keep the no-hitter going.
Senior Johnny Weiss, the shortstop for the Mustangs shared how he was feeling while playing behind Will, “When Will is pitching like that we knew we had to have his back. It’s the least I could do. He’s always trying to pitch to contact so we had to make sure we are locked in behind him.”
Frankie Lesniak, also a senior who played second base for the Mustangs also shared how he was feeling in the field, “It means a lot to help Will and the team out as much as possible. Especially in a moment like that, knowing I made an impact on history for such an incredible pitcher and moment for Will felt great.”
After the season over Bemrich will take his talents to Parkland and pitch for the Cobras.
