Mundelein varsity basketball guard Brandon Newell is a NSC (North Suburban Conference) honorable all-conference player. Newell is a sophomore at MHS and played his first varsity season for the Mustangs.
Mundelein finished 7th in conference which isn’t exactly where they wanted to end but there were many positives for the young team. Newell said, “It was a tough year, but I learned a lot. It helped us establish a solid base for next year where we can really improve.”
Newell thinks the best part of his game is how well rounded he is. With confidence Newell believes he can facilitate, shoot and play defense at a high level.
With the accomplishment of being the only sophomore in the conference with this award he said, “It gives me a lot of motivation to improve and become a member of the all conference team next year, some of my goals for next year is to become a better leader overall for the team and to finish at the top of the conference as a team.”
Newell thinks next year is going to be a huge year for the team and knows they will be able to compete at a high level against opponents. With the Mustangs not having a single senior on the team it looks promising for the upcoming year as this year’s experience was low for players. Newell trusts his teammates and likes how they have embraced him as a younger player and through all his rough and great times during the season.
Newell looks forward to next season and so does the team and hopefully the Mustangs can take a huge leap forward next season.
