The holiday season is upon us. With all the holiday spirit there of course comes the aspect of giving back to the community. One way to do this here in Lake County is donating through the various food pantries or food donation centers that are set up during this time.
The concept behind a food pantry is to have a place for people to donate food to those in need or who may not be able to afford food during the holiday season. After all, everyone, no matter who they are, deserves a hearty meal whether it’s at Thanksgiving or any of the other December holidays.
Giving back is what the holiday season is all about and through food pantries you can donate food obviously but you can also donate things such as money or clothes depending on the center you are donating to.
If you find yourself thinking about donating, it is highly recommended to first think about what, where, and why you are donating to a food pantry.
If you need some help thinking about where or how to donate, online you can find a Lake County Pantry list that lists all the centers in Lake County. The list includes what town the center is located in, the address of the center, the times of operation for the center if you are looking to come in to seek goods, and verification needed in the event that you are seeking goods from one of the centers.
Regarding the times, it is important to remember that many of these food pantries may list certain times for when they are open but they are actually open much more in regards to donations. This is because in most cases you are still able to drop off donations to a place even if they are technically not open for people to come in. It is the same idea as a Goodwill in which there is a drop off area that does not require you to even talk with some rather you are able to just do your good deed and go about your day. It is also equally important to remember that the times for the pantries that are about to be listed are subject to change so it is important that you contact the pantry beforehand.
